गटाने राहणारा पक्षी मराठीत याला पोपट असे नाव आहे. आवाज कर्कश व किंचाळल्या सारखा असला तरी माणसे याला पाळतात. याला बोलायला शिकवले तर एक दोन वाक्य शिकवल्या प्रमाणे त्यांच्या आवाजात बोलतात. प्राणी व पक्षी यांचे हुबेहूब आवाज काढतात. मादी २ ते ५ अंडी घालते. यांचे घरटे उंच झाडाच्या ढोलीत असते. पोपट ३० ते ४० वर्षे जगतात. धान्य,फळे हे यांचे प्रमुख अन्न आहे. त्यामुळे पिकांची नासाडी करतात. याचा रंग आकर्षित करणारा असा आहे.
